The most loving, most giving and funniest woman to grace our lives made her entry into heaven on Friday, May 17, 2013 at 6:42 p.m. Kathryn Antionette (Gepfrey) Frankhouser will be entertaining God her Father and Jesus her savior with her famous stories, joking around and jitterbugging to the high heavens!

Kathryn was born in Russia, Ohio, on January 29, 1927, to Michael and Elizabeth (Meyer) Gepfrey. She was the third of four children born to that marriage before her mother’s untimely death in 1931. Her siblings include the late Rosetta (Herman) Baltes, and the late Gene (Kathy who survives in Dayton, OH) Gepfrey and a surviving brother, Will (Pat) Gepfrey of Lapeer, Michigan. Her father remarried and her surviving half-siblings are Paul (Sandy) Gepfrey of Sidney, Ohio, Teresa (Ivo) Albers of Celina, Ohio, Miriam (Maynard) Macke of Mansfield, Ohio and Jim (Faye) Gepfrey of Arizona.

On April 3, 1947, Katie married her lifelong love, Merlyne (Merle) O. Frankhouser and they shared 42 years of happiness before his death on April 8, 1990. Their love created three children, Ken (Sue Carbone) Frankhouser of Grand Junction, Colorado, Becky (Tony) Scanlon of Findlay, Ohio and Debi (Ron) Miles of Arlington, Ohio. She enjoyed eight grandchildren, Michelle (Jason) Clymer of Findlay, Bryan (Ann Marie Harper) Householder of Heath, Ohio, Megan (Nick) Norden of Toledo, Bridget (Armando) Gallegos of Portage, OH, Melissa Scanlon of Findlay, Collin Miles of Heath, Ohio, Kaitlin Frankhouser and Jacob Frankhouser, both of Grand Junction, Colorado. She loved her children and grandchildren without reservation but she lit up when her great grandchildren (Jillian and Case Clymer, Ivy Norden, and Aleah and A.J. Gallegos) were mentioned or present. Family was everything to Katie. She is also survived by many, many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly and whom she dearly loved.

While Katie gave birth to three children, she opened her home and her heart to many others who loved her like a mother and whom she loved as her own. The members of this group are too numerous to name individually but she was especially close to Kathleen Wolcott, Howard Decker, Patty Roether, and Paula Kelly.

Katie spent the largest part of her life ministering to her family by keeping an immaculately clean home where her children could (and did) entertain their friends at any time. She provided wonderful home-cooked meals seven days a week, baked cookies and cupcakes multiple times a week and she canned and froze the bounty from her garden (which was more like a truck patch!). Up until the day Merle died, she faithfully made his favorite drink: gallons and gallons of sweet tea! She unselfishly provided food to anyone and everyone who entered her home.

Katie was a very active member of St. Michael’s The Archangel Church in Findlay where she had been a communion distributor, a member of the Rosary Alter Society, LCBA, Catholic Ladies of Columbia, Home and Hospital Ministry, RCIA, The 55+ Club, The Bereavement Team and many other organizations within the church. She served St. Michael’s for as long as she was able by taking communion to area nursing homes and she helped clean the new church building since it was built until just weeks ago. She especially enjoyed helping prepare the church newsletter. Her priorities were clear: God, Family, Church.

While we mourn her death, we celebrate her life because it was truly a life worth celebrating! A time of visitation will be held at Hufford Family Funeral Home, 1500 Manor Hill Road, Findlay, on Tuesday, May 21 from 1-3 and 5-8 p.m., with the rosary being recited at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 22 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 750 Bright Road, Findlay, with Fr. Chris Bazar celebrating. Burial will follow in St. Michael’s cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. Michael Catholic Church, The Melanoma Foundation, The Multiple Myeloma Foundation or the American Lung Association.
