Homer H. Flickinger American Veteran

Homer Harold Flickinger, 92, of Findlay passed away peacefully at 10:25 a.m. on Friday, July 27, 2012 at Blanchard Valley Hospital in the company of his son, James. Homer was born in McComb, Ohio on September 13, 1919 to Orville and Ruth (Smith) Flickinger. Homer was a World War II veteran, who served as a Army Staff Sergeant in the 71st Division. Homer worked for the Findlay City Schools for 25 years, retiring in 1982. Homer married Helen P. Thomas on July 21, 1940, and they enjoyed 69 years of marriage together. Homer was an avid barbershop enthusiast, and a member of the S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A. Homer was a lover of life, with many talents and hobbies. His interest included gardening, cooking, fishing, music, film, and politics. Homer was a fan of the Cleveland Indians and Chicago Cubs.

Homer is survived by his five children, Brenda k. Lewis, of Sandusky, OH, Gloria D. Flickinger, of Mt. Baldy, CA, Janet L. Ford, of San Diego, CA, James L. (Debra) Flickinger, and Stanley R. Flickinger, both of Findlay; 13 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Naomi (Gene) Miller, of McComb, OH; and many other family members and friends. Homer was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen; and two brothers, Max and Rex Flickinger.

Friends and family may visit on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 from 11:30-1:30 p.m. at HUFFORD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 1500 Manor Hill Rd, Findlay (419-422-1500). Funeral services will follow in the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. with Wayne Baldridge officiating. Full military rites will be performed by the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad following the service. Burial will be at a later date in McComb Union cemetery.  Memorial contribution’s in Homer’s name may be made to the Heritage Manor, 2820 Greenacre Dr., Findlay.

    So sorry to hear about Uncle Homer. He was a great guy. I remember my mom saying Uncle Homer and Aunt Helen were very special to her when she was growing up. I know he will be greatly missed.

    Brenda, Gloria, Jan, Jim & Stanley and Families, So sorry to hear about Uncle Homer, you have our deepest sympathy. Some of my favorite memories were coming to Findlay, and stopping and seeing everyone. Aunt Helen & Uncle Homer always had a special place in my heart. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. I can just see Aunt Helen & Uncle Homer reunited in Heaven right now, and Uncle Homer singing with the angels,with that wonderful voice of his.

  7. I’ll always remember Uncle Homer, he liked fishing—sheephead [poor man's lobster] and big walleye baked whole in the oven–with fried green tomatoes. Hope to fish with him again.

  8. i just wanted to tell you Jimmy i know we aint seen each other in six years but my heart goes out to you and your family. I lost my husband on july 25th so i know the pain just love each other everyday that is all we can do till we see them again.
