Billy J. Lord

Billy Joe Lord, 74, of Findlay, passed away at Bridge Hospice Care Center, Friday, March 13, 2026.

He was born October 14, 1951, in Bowling Green, to the late Josiah and Florence (Browne) Lord.

Bill graduated from Findlay High School in 1970 and was on the swim team. He was employed by Food Town for 35 years, then finished up his career at Walmart, retiring in 2016. Over the years, he was the biggest fan of all his kids and grandkids. He attended every game/function until the end. He loved to bowl and go to the casino any chance he was given. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 20 years. He was a beagle lover, rescuing several over the years. His most recent companion, Sambo, will miss him greatly but will be taken care of by his former wife, Rose. For the past 10 years he battled cirrhosis, with his normal goofy spunk. He will be dearly missed by all.

Those left behind to cherish Billy’s memory are his children, Joe (Julie) Lord, Jennifer (Bryan) Chiow-Mersch, Julia (Brian) Curtis, James (Jose) Lord; grandchildren, Theodore (Amanda) Roberts, Kaitlyn (Brad) Mendez, Dillin (Kensey) Chiow, Alyssa (Pat) Patterson, Hannah (Kaleb) Andrus, Briar (Alli) Curtis, Dylan Mersch, Jenna (Matthew) Curtis, Evan Mersch, Kelsey Chiow, William Chiow, Malia Mersch, Gabe Mersch; five great-grandchildren, with two on the way; sister, Penny (Dwight) Decker; and ex-wife, Rose VanDerVeer.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Barry Lord; and grandson, Ethan Lord.

Friends and family may visit Thursday, March 19, 2026, from 1-3 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. at HUFFORD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 1500 Manor Hill Rd., Findlay, (419-422-1500). A funeral service will be Friday, March 20 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Mike Lagg presiding. Interment will be at Houcktown Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bill’s name may be made to the Humane Society of Hancock County, 4550 Fostoria Ave., Findlay, OH 45840.
