Charles Lamb, Sr.

Charles (Charlie) Lamb, Sr., 91, of Findlay, originally of Louisville, Kentucky, passed at 4:58 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 in the care of Bridge Hospice. He was born on July 9, 1931 in Louisville, Kentucky to Bertha Smith and Charles Albert Smith. As was somewhat common for the times, Charles was sent to an orphanage at a young age and then raised by foster parents.  Later in life he reacquainted with his siblings and mother, staying in touch through the years and building a relationship.  His sister, Lucy Soeder, still survives in Louisville.

Charles remained with his foster family but dropped out of school in the 8th grade. He found jobs, worked hard and survived doing odd jobs to pay his way. In their teens while she was visiting her uncle, from Ohio, Charles met Norma Jeanne Harper, the love of his life. They continued dating and at 19 he married17 year old Norma Jeanne. They had their first child in 1950, Charles (Lori) Lamb, Jr. They eventually made their way to Findlay and had three other children, Danny Allen (Vicki) Lamb, Judith Ann (Morin) Lamb, and Claudia Marie (Mike) Johnson Lamb. They built their life together in Findlay.

Charles worked at Garwood and the Gulf Gas Station at the six way light. This is where he met the owner of Modern Heating, Walter Schultz who offered Charlie a job teaching him everything he knew about the HVAC business. He then sent Charles for more training in the industry, becoming his #1 guy. Then Mr. Schultz hired a young man, Tim Bowers, who Charlie had taken under his wing and trained. Time passed and Tim left to open his own business, Bowers Heating and Air. He asked Charlie to come to work for him which he did. He was Tim’s go to employee until he retired. Retirement didn’t last long as he went back to work with Tim and worked into his 70s. Charlie’s face was well known around town as the heating guy who was always there to lend a hand and solve the difficult problems. His knowledge of all things heating and air was endless, so much so that others in the business quite often came to Charlie when something had them stumped regardless of who they worked for.

From humble beginnings and an 8th grade education, he provided a wonderful life for Jeanie and the children providing so many happy memories. Charlie and Jeanne were blessed with four grandchildren two step-grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. He lost Jeanne in June of 2021 and his son Danny in March of 2018.

With all his work, he still found time for his favorite pastime, golfing, which he was also quite accomplished at.

The family would like to thank Bridge Hospice and all of their gentle, caring staff who made this difficult time easier for those with him at the end and making Charlie comfortable and at ease in his last days here on earth.

Charles will be cremated with the arrangements being handled by HUFFORD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 1500 Manor Hill Rd, Findlay (419-422-1500). There will be no services as per his request.
