Dale “Buzz” Sumner Buttles, 74, of Rawson, passed away Sunday, April 3, 2022, at Birchaven Village, Findlay. He was born June 4, 1947, in Merced, California to Harold and Marge (Sumner) Buttles.
Born legally blind, Buzz self-taught to play drums, guitar, bass, and piano. He led a successful music career and opened for artists including, Box Car Willie, Chubbie Checker, Terry Gibbs, Apple Ridge, Billy Crush Cruddock, and Ronnie Mcdowell. Buzz toured throughout Alaska, Canada, and across the USA. He sang for numerous weddings, funerals, and charitable events. He also played in bands that included: Sweetwater Express, Buzz Cokley, Wells Fargo, and George Jones offered him to be his bass player.
Aside from music, he owned a bicycle and small engine business where he repaired bicycles for the neighborhood kids. He also owned a Karaoke and DJ business. Among his many talents, Buzz enjoyed building and remodeling.
Buzz is survived by his ex-wife, June (Buttles) Freeman and their two daughters, Angie Buttles (Denny Jarrett), and Carrie (Allen) Harbor; ex-wife, Lucinda Reynolds and his stepson, Taylor (Kelsey) Reynolds; and two stepdaughters, Hallie Freeman (Sara Eicher), and Shelia (Liz) Wilson; 10 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Mike Buttles of Gardnerville, NV, and Andy Buttles of Placerville, CA; special friends, Wilbur St. Myer of Rawson, John Richenback of Findlay, and Tim “Sarge” Fenner of Findlay. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandmother, Nana; and band members and friends, Larry, Virgel, and Hank Hensley.
Friends and family may visit from 4 – 6 p.m. Friday, April 8, 2022, at HUFFORD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 1500 Manor Hill Rd, Findlay (419-422-1500). A funeral service will follow at 6 p.m. in the funeral home with family officiating. Memorial contributions in Dale’s name may be made to a Charity of the Donor’s choice.
