Daniel D. Jernigan

Daniel Dewey Jernigan, 88, formerly of Findlay, OH passed away October 17, 2018. He was born September 12, 1930 in McComb, MS and moved with his mother to Somerset, KY to support his family's farm. He leaves behind his loving wife, Marie (Kufeldt) of 58 years. Dan is also survived by a son, Duane (Amy) Jernigan; daughter, Lisa (Scott) Zimber; and 4 grandchildren, Mitch Zimber, Cameron (Emily) Zimber, Brenna Zimber and Nadia Jernigan. Daniel was preceded in death by his mother Flonnie Esta McKinney Jernigan Groseclose and father, Dallas D. Jernigan. Dan, a 1949 graduate of Somerset High School and a 1961 graduate of Anderson University, was a Navy Veteran Petty Officer 1st Class, serving 4 ½ years as a Radio Operator aboard the USS Murray Escort Destroyer during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Marathon Oil Company after 29 years of service. He maintained his Amateur Ham Radio License K8VXD throughout his life. He was an accomplished chess player and was musically gifted; he enjoyed singing in choirs and quartets and playing trumpet. Dan was a member and leader in various capacities at Stonebridge Church of God as well as being active in several volunteer organizations in Findlay, FISH, Chopin Hall and Mobile Meals. He and Marie sponsored several foreign exchange students which they have kept in contact over the years. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the Primrose Retirement Community, Bickford Senior Living and Heartland Hospice for all their loving care and comfort. Friends and family may visit on Thursday, October 25, 2018 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at HUFFORD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 1500 Manor Hill Rd, Findlay (419-422-1500). A funeral service for Daniel will be held Thursday at the funeral home at 12 p.m. following visitation. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery with the Hancock County Veteran's Memorial Squad performing full military rites. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Church of God Missions in care of Stonebridge Church of God, Findlay, OH.
