Danny L. May, 72, of Findlay, Ohio, passed away on August 4, 2024. Born on April 7, 1952, in Findlay, Danny dedicated his early years to serving his country in the Army from 1970 to 1972, a commitment that filled him with pride.
After his military service, Danny graduated from the Maine State Police Academy in 1983 and embarked on a significant career in law enforcement. He served as a Police Officer for the Oakland, Maine Police Department before advancing to become a Detective of Sex Crimes and Abuse for the Augusta, Maine Police Department. After his law enforcement career, he enjoyed buying and selling properties.
Danny was deeply caring, with an amazing sense of humor. He was ornery and fiercely independent. His proud, and sometimes stubborn, nature never overshadowed his profound love for his family. He also had a profound love for the state of Maine where he raised two kids with his wife Donna of 34 years (1984-2018), but Ohio never left his heart. His love for OSU was most apparent during Christmas when we had trees filled with silver and red bulbs. Before his health declined, he loved to fish, be outdoors, swim, and spend time with his family. He spent two years volunteering for the Hancock County Memorial Squad, upon returning home to Findlay in 2009. He spent countless hours hand sewing patches on new members uniforms. More recently, he enjoyed watching old movies, eating, listening to music, and he cherished every chance he got to spend time with his family.
He is survived by his daughter, Whitney May and her husband, Ryan Bennett; his son, Daniel May and his wife, Maggie May; and his grandchildren, Hunter, Emyrson, Easton, Warren, Zeke, Gretchen, and Rosie. He also leaves behind his sisters, Gail Leatherman, Joyce (Paul) Komosinski, and Judy Fagan; and brothers, Tom and Pete (Sharon) May; his best friend since childhood; Bobby Dunson; and many nieces, nephews.
Danny was preceded in death by his mother, Anna Sanders; father, Herman May; brothers, Timmy and Dave May; and stepfather, Ash Sanders.
Visitation for family and friends will be on Thursday, August 8, 2024, from noon until 2:00 p.m. at HUFFORD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 1500 Manor Hill Rd., Findlay, (419-422-1500). Funeral services will follow with military rites by the Hancock County Memorial Squad.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, contributions in Danny's memory be made to his family, to Bridge Home Health and Hospice, 15100 Birchaven Ln., Findlay, OH 45840, or to any Mental Health charity of your choosing.
