Freda Welshimer Hannie, of Toledo, OH, formerly of St. Marys, OH and Lakeland, FL, passed away on December 9, 2018 at the age of 92. She was born in St. Marys, OH on January 2, 1926, to James and Frances Townsend who preceded her in death. Freda married Samuel Welshimer on June 17, 1947, and he preceded her in death in 1973. She then married Eugene Hannie on June 12, 1990, and he preceded her in death in 2012. Freda is survived by her son, James (Pauletta) Welshimer, Findlay, OH; daughter, Sandra Wozny Spencer, Washington, NC; stepdaughter, Linda Wagner-Martin, Chapel Hill, NC; and stepsons, Jeff Hannie, Temple Terrace, FL and Greg (Joyce) Hannie, Lakeland, FL. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Eugene (Dana) Wozny, Elaine (Michael) Marinello, Doug (Karla) Wagner, Tom (Susan) Wagner, Andrea (Schan) Duff; great-grandchildren, Payton and Bennett Wozny; Sam and Cole Marinello; Paul, Carly, Jessica, Tommy, Elizabeth, and Isabelle Wagner; William and Evan Duff; and nephew, Ted (Kim) Wilges. Freda was preceded in death by her great-granddaughter, Anna Marinello; sister, Dorothy Wilges; and nephews, Gary and Jay Wilges. Freda was a graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School in St. Marys, OH and New York Institute of Photography in New York City. Freda had her own photography studio in St. Marys when her children were young. Freda and Sam owned the People's Store in St. Marys where Freda operated the children's department. They also co-owned and managed the Hotel Fort Barbee in St. Marys. Freda later was employed by the Cotton Mill Store in St. Marys and The Evening Leader newspaper in St. Marys before moving to Walnut Creek, CA and then Lakeland, FL where she was employed by Haverty's Furniture Store until her retirement. Freda enjoyed playing contract bridge with Sam, teaching bridge, and playing golf. She was the ladies champion at Northmoor Golf Club, St. Marys, for 7 years in a row. In Florida she also pursued ballroom dancing and won many competitions. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are being made by HUFFORD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 1500 Manor Hill Rd, Findlay (419-422-1500). Memorial contributions in Freda's name may be made to Parkcliffe Memory Care Community, 4226 Parkcliffe Lane, Toledo, Ohio 43615.
