George R. (Shorty) Lentz, 92, of Findlay, passed away peacefully and went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at the home of his daughter. He was born October 6, 1924 in Cass Township to the late Paul and Florence (Coppes) Lentz. George married Ethel Kerr on June 1, 1946 and she preceded him in death in June.
Shorty worked as a welder at Garwood and later retired from Work Brau. He spent years racing at Millstream then moved on to caring for and working at the track. If he wasn't at the tract, he was home buying and selling scrap metal, one of his passions. He really enjoyed going mushroom hunting in Michigan. It was something he looked forward to each spring. He and his wife of 70 years spent lots of their time going to auctions. Shorty will be remembered most by all the stories he loved to tell of his life's journeys. He had so many and always made you laugh. It's the stories that I will remember him for and be able to smile again. Shorty will be deeply missed by all.
Shorty is survived by four children, Howard (Nancy) Lentz, Phyllis Workman (Harold Donaldson), Joanna Shoup, and Sheila (Oscar) Muniz; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Arthur Lentz, and John Lentz. He is also survived by a sister, Leotta (Barfell) Lafferty. Shorty was preceded in death by brothers, Earl, and David; sisters, Dorthy Lentz, and Mary Hartman; a granddaughter; and 2 great-grandsons.
Friends and family may visit on Friday, December 30, 2016 from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at HUFFORD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 1500 Manor Hill Rd, Findlay (419-422-1500). A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the conclusion of visitation with Pastor Jim Klausing officiating. Burial will follow in Bechtel Cemetery, Van Buren, OH.
