James “Jim” E. Tucker

James E. Tucker, 80, of Findlay, OH, passed away on Monday, August 13, 2018 in Peachtree City, GA. Born in Rochester, NY on March 27, 1938, he was the son of the late Charles and Gertrude (Stein) Tucker. Jim was a licensed Nursing Home Administrator and Assisted Living Director. He worked at a variety of nursing homes in Rochester, New York including St. John's Nursing Home and the Jewish Home. He also worked as an administrator in West Virginia, Vermont and Ohio. He advocated for better conditions for his residents and employees. Jim also managed and served on the board of several credit unions in Rochester, NY, including the Genesee Hospital Credit Union. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, where he volunteered as a Eucharistic minister and jail lay minister, as well as in other ministries. Jim was Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Pope Leo Council 957, where he was named Volunteer of the Year. He was Faithful Navigator of the 4th Degree K of C. He was president of the board of CHOPIN Hall (Christians Helping Other People In Need) and an ombudsman for area nursing homes. Jim graduated from Aquinas High School and then St. John Fisher College in Rochester, NY in 1960. He served in the Army Reserves. Jim enjoyed helping others and making people laugh. Jim is survived by his children, Christine (James) Ward of Peachtree City, GA, Jeanne (Jeremiah) Segrue of Southington, CT, James (Michelle) Tucker of Webster, NY; and step-son, Terry (Deanne) Bateson of McComb, OH. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Matthew, Maggie, Jessica, Jeremiah, Katherine, Aubrey, Tara and Kara; his sisters, Gertrude Salemme of Encinitas, CA and Patricia Tucker of Gowanda, NY; and his brother, Thomas Tucker of Gowanda, NY. Jim is predeceased by his second wife, Margaret (Bateson) and first wife, Nancy (Gores); his brothers, Charles of San Diego, CA and Gerard of Southampton, NJ. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Michael the Archangel Parish, 750 Bright Rd. Findlay, OH 45840 at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 1, 2018 with a viewing one hour (9-10 a.m.) before Mass. Interment will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Catholic Charities, 1150 Buffalo Road, Rochester, NY 14624 or CHOPIN Hall, 1800 N. Blanchard St. #125, Findlay, Ohio 45840.
