James C. Perry

James Colwell Perry, 82, of Findlay, passed away Sunday, August 2, 2026, at Blanchard Valley Hospital.

He was born August 31, 1943, in Detroit, Michigan, to Willaim M. and Helen A. (Gamble) Perry. On September 4, 1965, James married the love of his life, Terri Lynne Johnson, and together they shared nearly 61 years of marriage.

James graduated from Denby High School in Detroit before earning his bachelor's degree and master’s degree from Wayne State University and a specialist degree from University of Detroit. He dedicated 36 years of his life to educating young people as a physical education teacher in the Detroit Public Schools.

A lifelong student and teacher of martial arts, James was a black belt in karate and a Tai Chi Chvan instructor. After retiring, he moved to Findlay to be near his children and grandchildren. He also loved playing cards and treasured every opportunity to be with his family.

James is survived by his loving wife, Terri Lynne; his children, Craig C. (Lori) Perry, and Dr. Renee S. Perry (Dr. Rick Reser); grandchildren, Mitchel (Karlie) Perry, Sierra (Colton) Tom, and Reid (Jami) Perry; great-grandchildren, Beau, and Scarlett; his sister, Joan (James) Waldrop; niece, Beth Waldrop; nephew, John (Sue) Waldrop; grandniece, Olivia Waldrop; and grandnephew, Jake Waldrop; as well as, many of Terri’s nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Helen Perry; and his brother, Roger (Carolyn) Perry.

In keeping with James' wishes, no formal funeral services will be held. Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at The Empire Bistro, 138 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883.
