Marta Vela

Marta Beatrice Vela, 87, of Findlay, peacefully drifted into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ surrounded by her family at Bridge Hospice Care Center. She was born in Laredo, Texas on July 29, 1933 to the late Luciano and Manuela (Villarreal) Hernandez Sr. Marta was united in marriage on April 12, 1965 to Jesus T. Vela Sr. They were married for 55 years and he survives in Findlay.

Marta worked for several years at the Cigar Factory in Findlay in the 1960’s and also co-owned Vela Rubbish, established in 1970 with her husband and children. Marta loved spending time with her grandchildren and family. She enjoyed cooking and dancing. Marta was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Parish.

Marta is survived by her husband, Jesus; sons, Jesus T. Vela Jr., Ruben (Erica) Vela, and Ronaldo Hernandez; daughters, Dolores ( Matt Siferd) Wolford, Mary Vela-Blanton, and Rosalinda Flores; 12 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Marta had a very special bond with her granddaughter, Jessica Palacios. She is also survived by her brothers, Raul Hernandez, Luciano Hernandez Jr., Robert Hernandez, Antonio Hernandez, and David Hernandez; sisters, Jane Nussbaum, Erma Guerrero, Lupe Stacy, and Sherry Hernandez; and a son-in-law, Kevin Wolford. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Kevin Wolford Jr.; brothers, Joe Hernandez, Ramon Hernandez; and a great-grandson, Caesar Breitigam.

Friends and family may visit on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 from 1 - 3 and 5 - 7 p.m. where a Rosary services will be held at 6:45 p.m. at HUFFORD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 1500 Manor Hill Rd, Findlay (419-422-1500). A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 23rd at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, (Downtown Church) on West Main Cross St., Findlay. Interment will follow in the St. Michael Catholic Cemetery.
