Merle A. Butler, 83, of Findlay, unexpectedly passed away Thursday, April 19, 2018 at Blanchard Valley Hospital. He was born December 21, 1934 in McComb, Ohio to the late William A. and Catherine R. (Metz) Butler. On May 26, 1956 Merle was united in marriage to Joanne E. Basinger, a marriage that would last 61 wonderful years.
Merle worked 21 years for Great Western Sugar Company, 6 years for Hancor, and retired from Centrex after 21 years of service. He was a member of the Northwest Ohio Antique Machinery Association, and past volunteer for Liberty and Blanchard Twp. Fire Departments. Merle enjoyed spending time with his family and collecting antique tools and watching westerns and NASCAR.
In addition to his loving wife Joanne, Merle is survived by his two children, David A. and Jodie I. Butler, both of Findlay. He is also survived by a brother, Carl O. Butler (BJ) of Findlay. Merle was preceded in death by his sister, Dorotha Mae Butler; and a brother, Lester E. (Roberta) Romick.
Friends and family may visit on Monday, April 23, 2018 from 11a.m. - 2 p.m. at HUFFORD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 1500 Manor Hill Rd, Findlay (419-422-1500). A graveside service will follow in Benton Ridge Cemetery at 3 p.m. at conclusion of visitation with Pastor Jim Klausing officiating.
