Findlay

Parker Chastaine Sams, 87, of Findlay, passed away September 15, 2024, at The Heritage with his loving family at his side.

He was born September 12, 1937, in Paducah, Kentucky to Ira and Mary Lou (Davis) Sams. Parker was united in marriage to Alvera Berghoff on April 1, 1967. In this union, they had five children, John, Robert, Mary, Cecelia, and Caroline.

Parker was a Tilghman High School graduate from Paducah, KY. He then received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Kentucky and became a Journalist for The Courier and retired as their Editorial Page Editor.  Parker served in the United States Army in Army Intelligence. His interests were photography, genealogy, art, stamp collecting, and poetry. He was also a member of St. Michael the Archangel Parish and Kiwanis.

Parker loved his family and classical music. He enjoyed playing the flute, piccolo, and the harmonica.

Parker is survived by his loving wife Alvera of 57 years; sons, John P. Sams of Columbus Grove, and Robert C. Sams of Findlay; daughters, Mary E. (Michael) Wolford of Findlay, Cecelia A. Sams (Dennis Dickerson) of Columbus, and Caroline (Eric) McCue of Findlay; six beloved grandchildren, Kayla Gill, Brendan Wolford, Austin Gill, Spencer Wolford, Marissa Wolford, and Sydney Wolford.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Bradley Gill.

Friends and family may visit Saturday, September 21, 2024, from 10 – 11 a.m. at HUFFORD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 1500 Manor Hill Rd., Findlay, (419-422-1500). Parker’s funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday following visitation in the funeral home with Deacon Mike Eier officiating. Interment will follow in St. Michael Catholic Cemetery with Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad conducting military rites.

In Parker’s honor, memorial contributions may be made to City Mission of Findlay, 510 West Main Cross St., Findlay, Ohio 45840 or Alzheimer’s Association Northwest Ohio Chapter, 480 W. Dussel Dr, Suite 150, Maumee, Ohio 43537.
