Ralph R. Bonnett Jr.

June 11, 1933 — December 31, 2020

Van Buren

On December 31, 2020, at the age of 87, Ralph R. Bonnett Jr., passed away peacefully at his daughter’s residence with his daughter at his side. He was born on June 11, 1933 in Los Angeles, California to the late Ralph R. and Mary (Angulo) Bonnett Sr. Ralph married Peggy Bonnett and she preceded him in death.

Ralph was in the ROTC program during high school, joining the Air Force shortly after as a fighter pilot. Afterwards, he attended San Diego State University and obtained his Machinist certificate. He retired from General Dynamics after 10 years where he helped build the door of the Space Shuttle Columbia. He also belonged to the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. Ralph was an avid fisherman who loved spending his time deep sea fishing in the Pacific Ocean and fishing off the Imperial Beach Pier. He was a Master Gardener planting avocado trees, lemon trees, grapes, bananas, fig trees, and apple trees, to name a few. Ralph loved Science and reading general science topics. Above all, Ralph will be remembered by his wonderful sense of humor and his faith in the Lord.

Ralph is survived by his daughter, Nancy (Diego) Bonnett-Rayle of Van Buren; son, Mark A. (Gloria) Bonnett of Vista, CA; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sisters, Alice Galindo of Pasadena, CA, Bernice Crawford of Los Angeles, CA; Abdulia Lozano of San Diego; nieces, Yolanda Bonnett, Mary Martinez (who were a big support to him and Nancy). He is also survived by his best friend, Dolores Gaitan; and an ex-daughter-in-law, Kathy Hoffman (who traced his genealogy back to King David). Ralph was preceded in death by his brother, Julio Bonnett; sister, Lily Ochoa; and a son, Ralph R. Bonnett III in 2007.

The family would like to extend a special thanks of gratitude to Comfort Keepers and Bridge Hospice for the compassionate care and guidance offered to my father during this journey.
