Robert "Bob" M. Groves Jr.

Robert M. “Bob” Groves Jr., 81, of Findlay, passed away peacefully surrounded by his children on December 25, 2021. He was born December 26, 1939, in Chicago, IL to the late Robert M. and Ruby M. (French) Groves. Bob married the love of his life, Judy A. (Leckey) Groves on October 11, 1964. They were married for 56 years. She preceded him in death on May 20, 2021. Together they have four children, Jon (Tonia) Groves of Holly Springs, NC, Todd Groves of Rawson, Amy (Mark Hardner) Groves of Arlington, and Heidi Groves of Findlay; five grandchildren, Kourtney (Everett) Waite, Matthew Groves, Taylor Rentz, Corrine Groves, Bryson Smith; and one great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Waite. He is also survived by his siblings, R. Scott Groves and Cindy Puchta.

After high school, Bob joined the United States Army and served from 1958 to 1964. He worked as an auto mechanic prior to being hired by Whirlpool Corporation in 1971. He retired from Whirlpool in 2003 after 32 years of service.

During their dating years, Bob and Judy enjoyed drag racing events across Ohio. During their married years, they attended many country music concerts, and also traveled every year to Tennessee for their wedding anniversary. Bob and Judy were members of the Upper Room Church of God.

When his sons joined the Cub Scouts, Bob became a volunteer which led to over 40 years of dedication to the Boy Scouts of America. In the Boy Scouts, he served as Scout Master and Unit & District Commissioner as well as serving on the Black Swamp Area Council. During his retirement, Bob volunteered countless hours at the Boy Scout Camp Berry. He was a member of the American Legion and a Lifetime Member of AMVETS. Bob also loved camping and woodworking and made many items cherished by the family.

Friends and family may visit Monday, January 3, 2022, from 5 – 7 p.m. at HUFFORD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 1500 Manor Hill Rd, Findlay (419-422-1500). An additional visitation from 10 – 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 4th in the funeral home with funeral services starting at 11 a.m. Pastor Terry McBeath will officiate. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery with the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad conducting full military rites.
