Stephen P. Gase, age 75, of Carey, passed away, Saturday, May 2, 2026, at Wyandot Memorial Hospital, with his loving wife by his side.
Steve was born on July 17, 1950, in Fostoria, to Paul and Elizabeth (Pachlhofer) Gase. In 1973, he married Carol (Stipp), and they remained married until her passing in 1993.
On July 12, 1997, he married Kathy (Lovell), and she survives. Steve and Kathy had a beautiful love story and met at a time in their lives when they were both suffering a great loss. God brought them together and their marriage was so blessed.
Steve is also survived by his children, Heather (Dante) Groves of Spring Valley, CA, Heather (Eric) Steen Dyarmett of Upper Arlington, OH, and Jeffrey Steen of Boston, MA; grandchildren, Dylan Fouts, Marissa (Patrick) Blair, Karina McCune, and Declan Dyarmett; 3 great grandchildren; his siblings, Ruth Ann (Alfred) Brickner, Elizabeth (Paul) Stevens, Vickie (Chip) Youster, and Thomas (Vicki) Gase.
In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by his first wife, Carol Stipp Gase; his stepmother, Bertilla Kimmet Gase; and his infant brother.
He graduated from Fostoria High School in 1969 and went on to work as a laborer at Whirlpool Corporation, where he retired after 30 years. Steve proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
Steve was a faithful member of St. Marks United Methodist Church. He was a devoted Ohio State Buckeyes fan and enjoyed going to sprint car races, especially with his brother. He found great joy in working with flowers and creating beautiful gardens. Steve and Kathy cherished their trips together, especially to Amish Country, Maumee Bay, and Lake Erie.
One of his greatest joys came from being a “Papa” and spending time with his grandchildren. Steve was a great listener, and always lent a hand to those in need, including filling blessing boxes for the community. Steve also had a special place in his heart for dogs.
Family was everything to Steve, and he will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, and hero.
