Steven Joe Smith, 35, of Rawson, passed away February 14, 2016. He was born November 4, 1980 to Corie and Debra (Settlemire) Smith of Rawson, Ohio. Steve was the husband of Lynsie (Powell) Smith and wonderful father to their two children, Cohen and Adalyn. Family was one of the most important things to Steve. He was the brother of Corie Smith Jr. of Solon, Iowa, Brian (Katie) Smith of Rawson, Greg (Heidi) Smith of Findlay, Jeff (Cherie) Smith, Jarod Smith, Brittany Smith, and Zach Smith all of Rawson. He was also loved by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mark and Jan Powell of Rawson, sisters-in-law, Erika (Thomas) Naylor of Arlington, Kayla (Jeremiah) Magee, of Findlay, and Chelsie (Josh) Perry of Rossford. Steve was an awesome uncle to 16 nieces and nephews. He is also survived by grandparents, Jim Smith of Findlay and Clara Settlemire of Ottawa. Steve was preceded in death by his grandfather, Delbert Settlemire Sr., and grandmother, Barbara Smith. Steve was a multi-talented athlete from a very early age. His sports included baseball, softball, Gray Y basketball, football, track, wrestling, rugby and volleyball. He was on a bowling league for several years and a referee for soccer and wrestling. He later added running marathons. In 2005, one of his accomplishments was reached by running the Boston Marathon where several of his "family fan club" met him at the finish line. He was a 1999 graduate of Cory Rawson High School and employed for 17 years at Chatelain Plastics. Steve's love for sports led to coaching the Hornet Junior High and High School Wrestling team and for Van Buren Black Knights for several years. He also coached Cory Rawson Cross Country and Golf. "A good Coach can change a game, a great Coach can change a life" and that is what Steve was able to do for the young people with whom he worked. Steve believed that keeping his body fit was physically, mentally and spiritually healing. His strength and determination always motivated him to be the best at whatever he was doing. He was a member of the Ohio MMA Demolition Fight Team where he was known throughout several states as "SuperFly". Not only was he a master at fitness, he was a trainer, a coach, a ringman, a friend and a mentor to this teammates. Some of his favorite hobbies were Volkswagen cars and woodworking that led to the creation of many wonderful projects. He also enjoyed snowmobiling with his family. He especially cherished the time he spent with his children. Although we don't understand the way or why things happen in this life, we hold on to the promise from God that we will all be together again. Our lives have been forever changed and we will hold Steve close to our hearts. He will be deeply missed. Friends and family may visit on Thursday, February 18, 2016 from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. and Friday, February 19 from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at Findlay First Church of the Nazarene. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the conclusion of visitation with Pastor Mike McClurg officiating. Interment will follow in Powell Cemetery, State Route 698, Findlay. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Steve's name may be made on Go Fund Me through Facebook, or Findlay First Church of the Nazarene, 2501 Broad Avenue, Findlay, Ohio 45840 will collect monetary gifts for the children.
