William J. "Bill" Mcconnell

June 1, 1937 — October 3, 2024

Findlay

William J. “Bill” McConnell, age 87, of Findlay, peacefully passed away October 3, 2024, at Bridge Hospice Care Center.

William J. "Bill" McConnell was born on June 1, 1937 in Weirton, West Virginia to William and Alice McConnell. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings, Rusty (Marsha) McConnell and Dorothy (Jim) Roe.

Bill graduated from Weir High in 1955 and proudly served in the United States Army for four years as a communication specialist in France.

In 1963, Bill moved to Michigan City, Indiana to work for Midwest division of National Steel in Portage, Indiana. While attending church in 1964, he caught the eye of Karen Baird; they fell in love and married on August 19, 1967. While he continued working for National Steel, Bill received his Business degree from Purdue North Central. He spent 29 years at the Midwest Division before moving to the corporate office as its internal auditor.  After three years, he and Karen moved to Livionia, Michigan where he worked for the Great Lakes division.  He retired from the workforce in 1999.

He is survived by his wife, Karen of 57 years, his daughters, Kelly Kintzele and Katie Shanahan, two sons-in-law (although he would only ever call them sons) Matt Kintzele and Matt Shanahan. In life, he adored his grandsons, Garrett (Sarah) Kintzele, Dylan Kintzele, Danny and Jack Shanahan as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In his free time, Bill loved attending his grandsons’ musical and sporting events. He became quite an avid fan of football, wrestling, rugby and baseball as well as enjoying their musical successes.

If you knew Bill, next to his love for his family, was his love for all things, Notre Dame and the great outdoors.  Bill was a lifelong Irish fan and spent many hours both reveling in ND victories as well as suffering through the agony of defeat. As for his love of nature, Bill kept a camper in Baldwin, Michigan for many years and indulged in fly fishing and walking the Pier Marquette as well as countless hours capturing the beauty of the area with his trusty camera.
