Albert (Al) Linhart Obituary

Albert Jay Linhart, 88 of Findlay passed away on May, 21, 2020 at the Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky, OH. He was born on July 3, 1931, in McComb, OH to the late Sherman and Ruthie (Harkness) Linhart. Albert married Margaret Best on April 7, 1956. They shared 64 years of marriage and she survives.

Albert is also survived by sons, Ron (Sheila), Brighton, MI; Steve (Debra), Findlay; and Michael (Robyn), Oak Harbor, daughters: Cathy Linhart and Maria (Larry) Hammond; daughter-in-law, Debbie Linhart, all of Findlay; 13 grandchildren, Ryan, Kevin, Travis, Shawn and Mitchell Linhart, Joseph and Robert Hammond, Nicole Pavey, Katherine Sulek, Kelley Lynch, Stephanie Settlemire, Taylor Miller; 8 Great-Grandchildren, Shy and Oliver Linhart, Chase, Andrew, Sophie and Grace Sulek, and Dylan and Avery Settlemire; brother-in-law, Nobert Frey, Upper Sandusky. In addition to his parents, Albert was preceded in death by his son Kevin, grandson Jeremy and sister and brother-in-law, Rachel (Gene) Stahl, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Gene Best, Whitney (Barbara) Best, Carol Frey.

Albert was a 1950 graduate of McComb High School where he excelled in basketball and football. He is still on the Top 10 scorers list (before 3 points) for basketball points at McComb High School. He attended Tiffin University on a basketball scholarship. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War Era as an Infantry Cook. Albert and Margaret owned and operated the Findlay division of the Toledo Blade for 8 years and the House of Awards and Sports for 25 years. Albert retired after 34 years from Cooper Tire and Rubber.

Albert attended St. Michael Archangel Catholic Church in Findlay. Albert was a member of the Findlay K of C #957, Korean War Veteran’s Association and the McComb VFW Post 9231. He enjoyed his visit to Washington D.C. with the Flag City Honor Flight. He loved coaching all his children and others in sports through Findlay Little League Baseball and Midget Football, Young Miss Softball and Women’s Softball. When not coaching, he enjoyed attending activities involving his family and friends. He was an avid Buckeyes and Browns fan. In his leisure time he enjoyed playing lots of golf, playing cards (euchre), Lake Erie fishing and traveling with his family and friends.

His family will be forever grateful to the medical personnel and nurses at the Ohio Veterans Home for the excellent care Albert received while a resident.

Friends and Family may visit on Friday, August 21st from 2 – 6 pm at Hufford Family Funeral Home, 1500 Manor Hill Rd, Findlay (419.422.1500). A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10am, Saturday, August 22nd at St. Michael Archangel Catholic Church, 750 Bright Rd in Findlay, with Monsignor Michael Hohenbrink as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Upper Sandusky, OH. Full military rites will be rendered by the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in memory of Albert to Findlay St Michael Archangel School or the Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky, OH.
