Bessie L (Downing) Moffitt

Bessie Larie Moffitt, 89, of Findlay, passed away at 11:20 a.m. on May 20, 2020 when God called her home to eternal rest, surrounded by family at The Heritage. Daughter of the late Raymond C. and Wilna (Patterson) Downing, she was born November 14, 1930 in Benton Ridge, Ohio. On July 19, 1952, Bessie married Eldon E. Moffitt and he preceded her in death.

Bessie graduated high school and preceded to Stautzenberger College earning her Associate’s degree. She was a retired housekeeper from Findlay City Schools, The Courier, and Blanchard Valley Hospital. Bessie’s interests were of many. She drew and painted many pictures for herself and others. She enjoyed listening to Christian music and Findlay High schools Pantasia. Bessie also enjoyed knitting and crocheting many blankets. While working on Suduko puzzles, she would listen to Joyce Meyer or Pat Robertson on the 700 Club. When she was younger, Bessie had a flower garden and loved watching NASCAR on TV. She was also a member of the EUB Church in Benton Ridge. Bessie had a high tolerance level raising four daughters.

Bessie is survived by her daughters, Carol Moffitt of Sylvania, OH, Judith (Daniel) Strelow of Lake Wales, FL, Mary (Alonzo) Bray, and Cynthia (Mark) Patterson, both of Findlay; grandchildren, Edward (Doreen) Honecker of Lake Wales, FL, Randall (Alicia) Bray of Fostoria, Abey (Tiffiany) Geelani of Sylvania, Mima (Tiger) Vu of San Francisco, CA; great-grandchildren, Kensly Robinson and Regyn Robinson, both of Fostoria, and Taliah Geelani of Sylvania. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Nadine (Tom) Thomas of Van Buren, Rose Mary Moffitt of Findlay; nieces, Carly (Bill) Glasser of McComb, Janis McIntosh of Bluffton, Jean (Stan) Clum of Harrod, OH; and nephew, Greg Thomas of Florida. Bessie was preceded in death by a grandson, Chad Michael Bray; sisters, Troas Downing, Esther Helen Hickerson; brother-in-law, Carl Hickerson; and her fur baby cat, Muffins.

The family would like to send a big THANK-YOU to the Interim employees, Alesha East (mom’s favorite), Hospice, Julie Rhodes (Passport Care Manager), The Heritage Manor, and Chaplain Cathy Archer, for the excellent care given to our mother. 

A private family visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at HUFFORD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 1500 Manor Hill Rd, Findlay (419-422-1500). A Memorial Service will be celebrated following visitation with Chaplain Cathy Archer officiating. Bessie will be laid to rest next to her husband in Benton Ridge Cemetery.
