Erwin J. Hoff, Jr. of Kenton, Ohio was born on July 8, 1939 in Mishawaka, Indiana. His parents were Erwin, Sr. and Mamie (Miller) Hoff. Erwin had two sisters: Judy Henthorne of South Bend, Indian and the late Gloria Banks of Austin, Indiana.
Erwin graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1957. After high school he joined the U.S. Air Force. He was stationed at Bunker Hill AFB in Peru, Indiana. He served a year in Morocco, Africa. After four years in the military as a military air police officer, Erwin left the Air Force in 1961.
After the military, Erwin married Marleen M. Luc on October 21, 1961. They had two children and were later divorced. In 1968 he married Mary J. Douglas. They had two children and divorced in 1985.On December 28, 1989 he married Barbara Gilts. They renewed their vows in May, 1999. Barbara resides in Kenton.
Surviving Erwin are children Kevin (Diana) Hoff of Newton Square, Pennsylvania, Leann (Todd) Adams of North Liberty, Indiana, Darin (Beth) Hoff of Davenport, Florida; stepchildren Norman R. Gilts of Rawson, Kevin (Rose) Gilts of Findlay, and Robin Bowman of Findlay. Erwin was also blessed with 15 grandchildren and 7 greatgrandchildren.
Preceding Erwin in death are his parents, sister Gloria Banks of Austin, Indian and daughter Heather K. Zurbuck of South Bend, Indiana.
Erwin retired from Chevron Oil. He went on to work for Merchants Metal in New Paris, Indiana and Scott’s Miracle-Gro in Marysville. Erwin was an avid Notre Dame fan.
Erwin died at home after a four month battle with cancer. He will be cremated and the will be no services per his request. Erwin loved his family greatly. He will be sadly missed, especially by Barbara. She would like to thank Bridge Hospice, Ally Hancock, Barbara Merchant, and all that helped care for her beloved Erwin.
