Garland "Skeeter" Johnson Jr. Obituary

Garland “Skeeter” Jerome Johnson Jr., 68, of Fostoria, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, August 8, 2020 at Bridge Hospice Care Center. He was born January 19, 1952 in Fostoria to the late Garland J. Johnson Sr. and Mary (Ritter) Johnson.

On September 20, 1974, Garland married the love of his life, Rhonda Jane Cervantes. They were blessed with 3 beautiful children, Ryan (Raquel) Jerome Johnson, Rachel (William) Marie Johnson King, and Royce Elliot Johnson (fiancé, Ashley Sheridan). Proud grandparents of 12 grandchildren; 9 step-children; and 7 step-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Richard (Karen) Johnson, Roger Johnson, Ronnie (Josie) Johnson; sisters, Shirley Graber, Nella (Rory) Pankhurst; and the Cervantes girls considered Garland as their Big Brother; sisters-in-law, Linda (John) Hill, Deb Eisenhour, and Lori (Rick) May. Survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Garland was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, George (Kay) Cervantes; sisters-in-law, Kay Johnson, and Sue Leonard; brothers-in-law, Bill Graber Sr., and Keith Eisenhour.

Garland graduated from Fostoria High School in 1971. He would go on to retire from the Chrysler Stamping Plant in Twinsburg, Ohio in 2003. In his younger years, he was a very good baseball player and pitcher who would hit 21-0. He loved the Cleveland Browns and Indians, the Ohio State Buckeyes, for which he was a huge football fan. Garland was a very outgoing and friendly person, the life of the party, and never a dull moment with him. You never knew what he was going to say. He was an avid music and Rock-n-Roll fan, attending concerts and the Hippie Fest. Garland loved spending time with his family, going on family outings, picnics, playing cards, and going fishing. He truly was a family man who love to laugh and make everyone else laugh as well. He always brought flowers and cards to his children, grandchildren, and especially his wife on any occasion and sometimes just because. God blessed Garland with a green thumb who could plant just about anything. He became a born again Christian who loved the Lord Jesus. Garland lived life to the fullest! He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
