Howard Eugene Oberly, age 92, of Findlay, passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2021 at Blanchard Valley Hospital. He was born September 19, 1928 to the late Olen and Emma (Schaller) Oberly. On November 13, 1948, Howard and Betty (Burk) Oberly were united in marriage and she survives. They celebrated 72 years of marriage last November.
Howard graduated from Findlay High School in 1947. He worked at City Laundry where he met his wife. In February of 1948, he started work at Ohio Oil Company, which later became Marathon Oil Company, where he started as messenger and worked his way up to chauffeur, to draftsman and then supervisor. He also worked at Baisley’s Meat Market. After 33 years of service, he retired in 1986.
Howard was a longtime member of St. Marks United Methodist Church. He also enjoyed his membership in Promise Keepers (a men’s faith fellowship). His pastimes included bowling, fishing, reading and doing word search puzzles.
Howard is survived by his loving wife Betty; three children, David (Deborah), Danny (Joyce), and Debra; four grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He leaves behind a younger sister, Mary (Oberly) Karcher; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Howard was preceded in death by his older brother, Everell Oberly.
Due to current circumstances, no formal service will be held at this time. A private graveside service will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery.
