Jane Rosaire Laube, 89, of Findlay, passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2020 surrounded by her children after a brief time at Blanchard Valley Regional Hospital and Bridge Hospice Care Center. Jane was born on December 16, 1930 in Wyandot County, to the late Ralph and Bertha (Rall) Haferd. On June 30, 1951 Jane married J. Eugene Laube and he survives. Jane was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church.
Jane graduated class valedictorian from Carey HS in 1948 and received her Bachelors of Science degree from the College of Saint Mary of the Springs, a Catholic women’s college in Columbus, Ohio.
She was a loving wife and wonderful homemaker, baking her special cookies (with added ingredients), timed perfectly for her children's return from school. She enjoyed gardening, surrounding her home with beautiful flowers and trees. Always active, she became a skilled golfer involved in several golf leagues in Findlay and Leesburg, Florida. When her children were young, some weeknights involved a family boat ride down the Maumee River or a weekend day trip to play on Devils Lake (Michigan). Many evenings were filled with family card and poker games....and she could beat the best. Later years were especially sweet with visits from her grandchildren (and later, her great grandchildren) who became the apple of her eye. While she briefly taught science at St. Michaels the Archangel Catholic School in the early 60's, more importantly, she taught her children how to best deal with life and to keep their faith in Jesus as their strength. As a young family, she made it a special joy to travel to Hilltop farm for the holidays. Even in 2020, her children loved sitting around the kitchen table while she shared her memories of family life growing up on the Haferd’s beloved Hilltop.
Jane is also survived by her children, John Laube, Richard (Sandy Neumeister) Laube, Denny (Jodee Philo) Laube, Dave (Deb) Laube, and Carolyn (Mark) Heitmeyer; 4 grandchildren, Mike (Chrissy) Shade, Steve (Grace) Shade, Ashley Benedict, and Shelby (Mike) Cumberledge; 5 great-grandchildren, Amelia Jane Shade, Avery and Drew Benedict, and Rowan and Beckett Cumberledge; sisters-in-law, Pat Haferd and Marialyce Haferd; brothers-in-law, Joe (Dolores) Laube and David (Kathy) Laube. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Charles Daniel; three sisters, Margaret Haferd, Angela Haferd, and Mary “Pet” (John) Creagh; and two brothers, Franklin and David Haferd.
A private graveside service will be held on Friday, November 6, 2020 in St. Michael Catholic Cemetery. HUFFORD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 1500 Manor Hill Rd, Findlay (419-422-1500) has been entrusted with the arrangements. Memorial contributions in Jane’s name may be made to the Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation, 315 Clay St., Carey, Ohio 43316.
