Obituary

Joseph A. Sarna was born in Cleveland, OH on August 19, 1935, to John and Anna Sarna. From the age of 3 he was in the Cuyahoga Welfare System and was a foster child in several homes. At the age of 9 he was moved to Euclid, Ohio to live with his permanent foster parents, William and Helen Ryan who preceded him in death. He graduated from Cleveland Benedictine High School in 1953.

Joe married Marilyn Zeller of Leipsic, OH on January 24, 1959, and they enjoyed 64 wonderful years together. Joe served in the U.S. Army from June 1958 to 1960 and was stationed in Butzbach, Germany for 16 months where his wife Marilyn joined him for 8 months living off-base in their tiny German apartment.

Joe has a daughter, Cynthia Sarna, Marysville, OH; a son, Timothy (Angela) Sarna, Delaware, OH; 5 grandchildren, Alyssa & Darian Hacker, Alexandria, Andrew & Aidan Sarna, 3 step-grandchildren, Brooke (Brad) Marzec, Leeann and Ryan (Samantha) Businger; 5 step-great grandchildren, Madilyn, Lillian, Noah, Vivian & Owen Marzec. Many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Those preceding him in death were his brother, Charles Sarna; in-laws Harry & Eva Zeller; brother-in-law, Harold (Carol) Zeller.

Joe was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Parish, Holy Name Society, a member of Findlay Council 957 Knights of Columbus and served as Captain and Navigator for the 4th Degree Pope Leo X111 K of C. He also was a member of the Findlay American Legion, Post #3.

Joe retired from Warner Buick-Nissan in Jan. 2000 after spending 32 years in automobile sales, starting with LaRiche Volkswagen in 1968. Joe was always so proud of all his family and their accomplishments and always cherished holidays and get-togethers. Joe loved all sports and was an avid Ohio State and Cleveland Indians fan. His favorite team was the Cleveland Browns, and he was a lifelong fan (even through the many lean years). He had a passion and collection of music from all decades and served as a DJ at Portage Cove Park in the Port Clinton area where he and Marilyn spent many years camping, boating & fishing with their many friends.

A special thanks to all the staff at the Heritage, especially the nurses and aides, for their compassionate care of Joe.
