Kenneth Wayne Heffner, 85, of Arcadia, Ohio, passed away on July 1, 2021in his home surrounded by his family.
Kennieth (Ken) is survived by his wife, Phyllis; son, Wayne (Kristy) Heffner of North Liberty, IA; and daughters, Penny Prigge of Arcadia, OH, and Cindi Heffner of Findlay, OH. Ken also leaves behind grandchildren, Daniel Chinnis of ND, Kaleb (Alex) Heffner of Cedar Rapdis, IA, Matthew Chinnis (fiancé Jessica Bastidas-Celleri) of Chicago, IL, Karis (Chris) Cains of England, Kayla (Kalob) Donaldson of Findlay, OH, Kirah (Jordan) Johnson of Richmond, IA, and Erin Prigge of St. Louis, MO. Ken also loved seven great-grandchildren, Maddox and Brooks Heffner, Alex, Cody and Eliza Johnson, Konnor and Athena Donaldson. Ken was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Neva Williams; and brothers, Lawrence Heffner, Richard Heffner, Elmer Heffner, and Donald Heffner.
Ken was born to the late Harry and Luella (Auchey) Heffner. He married Phyllis Ann Grimwood on December 27, 1958 and they celebrated 62 years of marriage. He served his country as a member of the Air National Guard. Ken graduated from Messiah Academy in Grantham, PA, University of Findlay, and Winebrenner Theological Seminary.
Pastor Heffner was an ordained minister in the Churches of God General Conference and served as a godly pastor between 1966 – 1993 in the Churches of God General Conference at the Matamoras and Stone Glen Churches of God (Eastern Regional conference), Salem Church of God, Hopewell Church of God, Rock Run Church of God, and Belmore Church of God (all of the Great Lakes Conference), and Cairo (OH) United Church of Christ. For many years he served in various positions at Camp Otyokwah.
He also served as a leader in various areas of church life: General Conference Administrative Council and Commission on Stewardship; Winebrenner Village Board of Trustees, Administrative Council, Executive Committee, and several Commissions (Ministerial Ordination and Guidance, Church and Pastor Relations, Stewardship and Finance, and Property Management) all in Ohio Conference; and Commission on Ministerial Training and Ordination (East Pennsylvania).
When he was no longer in the active pastorate, he provided mentorship and encouragement to numerous students at Winebrenner Theological Seminary while he served at the Superintendent of Plant and Grounds (1982 – 1997). He modeled a strong work ethic by continuing full time employment until his retirement from Kohl’s Distribution Center at the age of 76.
Ken was a longtime member at College First Church of God. His love for scripture and teaching were evident as he taught Sunday school for kindergartners, led the Bible Quizzing Program and taught the Friendship Seekers adult Sunday school class.
His enjoyments in life included his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and gardening. He grew numerous varieties of hostas and was considered somewhat of an expert. Above all, Ken was a dedicated follower of Jesus. He loved life, loved his family and strove to glorify God in all he did.
