Lawrence W. Thomas, 89, of Findlay, Ohio passed away on Friday, November 13, 2020 at Blanchard Valley hospital. He was born on August 27, 1931 in Melrose Park, Illinois to the late Frank and Ruth (Quehl) Thomas. He married Nancy E. Buchanan on August 29, 1953 and she survives.
Lawrence (Larry) is survived by his four children: Son, Mark (Ronda) Thomas of Grafton, Massachusetts; Daughter, Beth (Kevin) Lee of Liberty Twp., Ohio; Son, Paul (Amanda) of Westerville, Ohio; and Daughter, Anne (John) Hoffman of Kalamazoo, Michigan. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 2 great- grandchildren along with nieces, nephew and extended family. Larry was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Frank.
Larry grew up in Maywood, Illinois, where he graduated from Proviso Township High School in 1949. He entered Case Institute of Technology in Cleveland, Ohio, and graduated in 1953 with a BS Degree in Metallurgical Engineering. He accepted a position with Chrysler Corporation in Detroit, Michigan where he entered Chrysler Institute of Engineering receiving a MS Degree in Automotive Engineering in 1955. Thereafter, having felt a call to the gospel ministry, Mr. Thomas entered Princeton Theological Seminary and graduated with a BD Degree in 1959. He served Presbyterian Churches in Frankfort, Kansas, Wakeeney, Kansas and Peoria, Illinois. In 1971 he was called to the First Presbyterian Church of Tiffin, Ohio, which he served for 23 years until his retirement in 1994. In 1996 he moved to Findlay, Ohio and has taken an active part in the life of the Findlay First Presbyterian Church. He has received the “you are loved award” from all his family members.
A private family committal will be held at the Findlay First Presbyterian Church. A celebration of life will be held at a future date.
