Mary Fish Obituary

Mary Martha “Martie” Fish, 85, of Findlay, passed away at Bridge Hospice Care Center on Thursday, April 8, 2021. Martie was born on June 29, 1935 in Bluffton, Ohio to the late Wilbert and Mildred (Carr) Zuercher. On July 4, 1956, she married Joe Bert Fish and they were together 62 years until his death in 2018.

 

Martie graduated from Pandora-Gilboa High School in 1953 and Findlay College in 1955. She was a member of College First Church of God for over 50 years. She helped prepare funeral dinners and organize the church bazaar for 30 of those years. Martie also served as a deaconess, Sunday school teacher, and participated in Caring and Sharing Women’s Ministry. Community activities included Jumping Jack CCL, Buckeye Branch Garden Club, and serving as a Cub Scout Leader.

 

Martie worked as a secretary in the family’s business, Bigelow Glass established in 1969 with her husband Joe and brother-in-law Lerse Fish. She also prepared lunches for many employees over the years until her retirement in 2015. Martie loved hosting events, camping with friends, working with flowers, and enjoying her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

 

Martie is survived by two sons, Jay and Jeff (Jenny) Fish of Findlay; and six grandchildren, Jessica Mitchell (Kevin Kendzierski), Tyler (Kimberlee) Fish, Katie (Brian) Smith, Anne (Blaine) Wells, Laura (Robbie) Rucki, and Jana Fish. She also had eight great-grandchildren, Hallie and Mylie Mitchell, Mack and Miranda Smith, Gavin and Brynn Wells, and Elliot and Lillian Fish. Also surviving is her sister, Betsy Steiner; sister-in-law, Ellen Fish; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Martie was preceded in death by brothers, Harold and James Zuercher.

 

Martie’s body was donated to The Ohio State University for medical research. A Celebration of Martie’s life will be held at College First Church of God, 1100 N. Main St., Findlay, Ohio 45840 on Saturday, June 26th at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor David Welker officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 10-11 a.m. at the church. Casual attire is encouraged as a lunch will follow at the family pond (915 E. Bigelow, Findlay) that she and Joe loved and cared for since 1963. HUFFORD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 1500 Manor Hill Rd, Findlay (419-422-1500) has been entrusted with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to College First Church of God or City Mission of Findlay.
