Mary Lou Sopher, 81, of Findlay, passed away peacefully with her loving family at her side on June 24, 2020 at Blanchard Valley Hospital. Born July 9, 1938 in Fostoria, she was the daughter of the late Ralph R. and Adeline (Turner) Peters. Mary married Joe R. Sopher and preceded her in death in 2008.
Mary lived a very full life raising her six children, being a homemaker, and a housewife. While raising her own children, she maintained an open door for all the kids in the neighborhood and quickly became known as the “neighborhood mom”. Mary enjoyed crocheting, needlework, and loved vacationing with her husband Joe at the beautiful beaches of Gulf Shores, Alabama.
Mary is survived by her children, twins, Joe R. (Julie) Sopher of Findlay and Jean A. (John) Hummel of Arcadia, twins, Tim R. (Lynn) Sopher of Fostoria and Cheryl K (Mike) Kelley of Findlay, Terri L. Castret of Findlay, and Todd A. (Sherri) Sopher of Findlay; 15 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Virginia (Ronald) Stapley of Carey, Esther (Duane) Reynolds of Fostoria; and a brother, Donald Peters of Tucson, Arizona. In addition to her husband and parents, Mary was preceded in death by her brothers, James, Robert, Howard, Gaylord and an infant brother, Gerald Peters.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Brookdale Assisted Living, BVH, CCU Unit, the nursing staff and doctors on the 5th floor, the Armes Family Cancer Care Center, and Findlay Bridge Home Health & Hospice Center for their kind and compassionate care shown to Mary and the family during this very difficult time.
Friends and family may visit on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 from 4 – 8 p.m. at HUFFORD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 1500 Manor Hill Rd, Findlay (419-422-1500). Funeral service for Mary will be held Wednesday, July 1st at 11:30 a.m. with visitation one hour (10:30 – 11:30 a.m.) prior to the service in the funeral home. Pastor Dan Metzger to officiate. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery.
