Merle Cameron, 69, of Arlington, went to be with the Lord on September 27, 2020 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center. He was born to the late Paul and Mary (Minard) Cameron on June 27, 1951 in Findlay, Ohio. On January 19, 1970, Merle married Joy Siferd and they were married 27 years and remained best friends. She preceded him in death on April 20, 2016. In 2002, he met Darlene Nill and spent his remaining years loving her and sharing their lives together.
Merle honorably served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1975 serving in Vietnam from 1970 – 1971. Merle was an outstanding Soldier and a recipient of two Purple Hearts. He received many honorable medals and awards: one Silver Star, one Bronze Star, Parachutist Badge, the Combat Infantryman Badge, Army Good Conduct Medal, Republic of Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, and Expert Rifle Medal. He was a master carpenter until his retirement in 2013. He loved hunting, trapping, fishing, and playing cards. Merle was a member of Good Hope Lutheran Church of Arlington.
Merle is survived by three daughters, Amy Cameron of McComb, Lynn (Shane) Schnipke of Arlington, and April Talos of Bradenton, Florida. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Richard, Walter, and Paul; and a sister, Betty.
A Graveside Service will be held at 10 a.m. in Maple Grove Cemetery on Thursday, October 1, 2020. Pastor Steve Ramsey will officiate and the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad will perform full military honors.
